About the project
The Beero oo Barwaaqee Soomaaliya (BBS) Irrigation Project is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, financed by the African Development Bank. The Project aims to restore and expand irrigation infrastructure in Somalia’s productive agricultural corridors, strengthen the resilience of smallholder farming households to climate variability and recurrent flood and drought shocks, and improve food security and rural incomes.
Project activities include the rehabilitation and construction of water infrastructure (canals, barrages, flood-control and water-control structures), the restoration of command areas for irrigated production, support to priority crop value chains, and institutional strengthening of federal and Federal Member State irrigation and agriculture institutions.

Project coverage
The Project is implemented across the Federal Member States of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Jubaland and South West State, together with Somaliland, covering 22 districts and 136 proposed sites.
