Department Of Food Security, Food Systems, Climate Change, and Resilience

Background of The department

The Department of Food Security, Food Systems, Climate Change, and Resilience is vital to addressing Somalia’s pressing challenges of food insecurity, climate change, and economic vulnerability. It plays a central role in ensuring reliable access to food by monitoring food systems, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and strengthening national preparedness for emergencies. By integrating resilience-building, climate adaptation, and innovative agricultural approaches, the department safeguards livelihoods and supports the well-being of Somalia’s population. Its efforts are critical to reducing hunger, stabilizing food markets, and fostering social and economic stability across the nation. Beyond addressing immediate challenges, the department is instrumental in driving long-term economic growth. Agriculture is the backbone of Somalia’s economy, and the department’s initiatives in improving productivity, enhancing value chains, and diversifying livelihoods contribute directly to national development. By promoting inclusive participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups in agricultural systems, it not only empowers communities but also ensures equitable and sustainable growth. This holistic focus positions the department as a key driver of resilience, innovation, and progress in Somalia’s journey toward food security and economic prosperity.
